The Stones always amaze me just how well they understand theology. This song is one of my favorites (Saint of Me) on the Bridges to Babylon album. Babylon, has always been symbolic in the Bible, of the worlds City’s of Sin; which man is ever trying to build up in independence from the Lord God. Yet, the mercy of the Father, was in sending his Son to die for sinners, as a starting point for their redemption, because of the atonement on the cross of Christ. This is only a work of God by grace, and cannot be earned, only followed via the Holy Spirit’s work within us.
