Elders should be able to discern the difference in a brother or sister of the Lord, whereas a younger member of the body of Christ, is still yet unable to do so. This is partly because so few elders exist nowadays who have the understanding of the different mindsets of reputable doctrines, (which we use to communicate in following Christ with others). And Satan uses these doctrinal divides, often destroying the unity of the body. Unfortunately most churches don’t understand the difference between the soul (emotional reasoning), the human spirit, and the Holy Spirit’s place and functions: which causes problems and unneeded divisions amongst the body.
