I was debating a guy who thinks that in 70 AD Jesus already returned. Allot of things happened in 70 AD (the “Church Age” began) yet this does NOT negate a continuation of many other scriptures.
70 AD : some 2nd coming shortfalls of the doctrine …
1 Corinthians 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death still he come. Matthew 5:18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 1Thes 4: 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them din the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus ewe shall always be with the Lord.
Philippians 3:20–21 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself
Too many verses in scripture speak to the judgment to come. ( Although I know that “Tentmaker.org” says differently about this period…)
2 Peter 1:20-21 King James Version (KJV) 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Mark 9:1 – Luke 20:34-36 – 1 John. 3:2- Acts 1:6 – Acts 1:11-1 Cor.15:23-28 – 1 Cor. 15:50-54 – Col. 1:18 – Peter 3:10-13 – 1Thes. 5:1-3 – Rev. 21:4 – * Mat. 25: 31-46 – 2 Tim. 4:1; Jude 15 – John 12:48 – John 5:28-29 – Acts 24:15 –
2 Peter 3:16, KJV: “As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”
2 Timothy 2:17-18 (KJV) 17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; 18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
2nd Peter writes some pretty hard words about jumping to this conclusion, as we live by faith – in many things which are unseen, the rest is all but academia.
