Overthinking or Delusional?

Matthew 24:7 – Nation in this text is translated ETHOS in the Greek and is where we get the term Ethnic (group) from.

So, the Biblical text would read – For “Ethos” shall rise against “Ethos” and Kingdom against Kingdom and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

I learned this in Bible school in the 80’s, however although this is a correct interpretation of scripture; I have now discovered a “broadening of the word” which although correct, sort of loses its impact when used in this verse to a more pluralistic meaning, rather then simply speaking about ethnic groups:

Ethos (/ˈiːθɒs/ or US/ˈiːθoʊs/) is a Greek word meaning “character” that is used to describe the guiding beliefs or ideals that characterize a community, nation, or ideology.

In rhetoric, ethos is one of the three artistic proofs (pistis, πίστις) or modes of persuasion …

So what I see happening here is very interesting; if I use the term “Ethos” like written in Matthew 24:7 (in its current usage) it becomes hard to make the point that the Bible is speaking about ethnic uprisings, as it could be argued that I have simply produced a type of rhetoric or perhaps overlooked a greater truth!?

Additionally it is interesting that the “Spirit of the age” (we are now in) disallows any “intellectual proof” of understanding “the word”  in such a verse… Are you tracking, or am I overthinking the contexts of this text?

2 Corinthians 4:4

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Also, we have verses like: 1 Cor. 2:12, Ephesians 2:2, James 4:4

To me, it is simply more proof of the “Spirit of the age”, which I see as strong delusions!

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12

The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

It seems to me that less and less “spiritual truth” is registering to upcoming generations, and I have to wonder if its our education systems or God orchestrated blindness?
